Creativity: Weaving tradition

Josep and Magda work with their hands and with natural materials.

In their traditional basketry workshop in Torroella de Montgrí, they create with patience and passion: baskets, lamps, furniture, and custom-made decorative pieces. Every object born from their hands radiates tradition, craftsmanship, and that kind of magic almost everyone wants in their home.

But Tramat is much more than a workshop: it’s a way of loving what we do and what we have. It’s about reclaiming slow gestures, observing nature, and the patience that each fiber demands. It’s the rough texture of hands braiding and intertwining—not just wicker or cane, but stories too.

In this serene space, time seems to have its own texture. A slow, grounded rhythm. Here, things are not produced—they’re created. The soul of intentional craftsmanship is revived. That’s why every piece is unique: not only because of the material, but because of the spirit with which it has been woven.

Taking a workshop with them is coming into contact with a different way of seeing. Learning to make a basket might seem simple, but you soon discover there’s much more in that ancient gesture: a connection to the hands of our grandparents, to rudimentary tools, and to a land that once was—and still is. A way of life that must not disappear.

Craftsmanship is not just about the result. It’s about the process. It’s about conversation. It’s the green scent of freshly cut wicker, the coarseness of natural fibers, the repetition that becomes meditation. And perhaps, it’s also a way of resisting: against haste, against forgetting, against uniformity…

At Tramat, creativity is woven together with memory. And in every piece that emerges from this small artisan universe, there’s an invitation: to look again, to touch, to value. To slow the world down. And to make it truly ours.
