Located by the sea in Begur, Finca Victoria is a place where heritage, design and Mediterranean spirit merge in natural harmony. A historic house that remains true to its origins, yet offers luxurious amenities such as a wellness area and two gastronomic spaces run by Michelin-starred chef Jordi Vilà.
Situated in a tourist resort just a short walk from one of the most impressive beaches on the Catalan Costa Brava, the recently opened Finca Victoria hotel is a timeless Mediterranean retreat with panoramic views of the Medes Islands. Originally built in the 1960s as a private residence where artists, politicians and visionaries met, today, under the care of two Catalan families led by the matriarch Victoria, the estate remains true to its origins, encapsulating the warmth, beauty and mysticism of its name. Like the historic house, the Costa Brava was once a place of festivities full of celebrations; but now it is becoming a destination to disconnect and reconnect, to discover the natural beauty of the region and its magical villages.
Preserving the original spirit of the house, a meticulous restoration carried out by GCA Architects has preserved historical elements such as the original scale, the iron railings and the iron cladding. These elements are combined with an interior design concept focused on contemporary additions and custom-made furniture. The result is a stone and mortar building that evokes the great farmhouses of Cadaqués and Llafranc, and which now integrates harmoniously with new stucco walls, Catalan tiled ceramic floors and completely personalised furniture made by local craftsmen.
Each of the 38 rooms, including 10 suites, combines comfort and sophistication. Many of the spacious rooms have private spaces for rest, work and well-being: large beds and walk-in wardrobes often lead to living areas or terraces. The Privilege Terrassa, a luxurious space with terrace, solarium and outdoor shower with sea views, and the Pool Suite, equipped with a private swimming pool, stand out. The jewel of the property is the Suite La Torre, located in the original tower of the house. Distributed over three levels with a terrace, 360 degree views and an outside shower, it can comfortably accommodate up to four people. Whatever the room, the white ceramic bathrooms contrast elegantly with the wooden elements, which evoke the Menorcan boats, a typical Catalan vessel, and the unique fish from local artists on the walls.
At the heart of Finca Victoria there are communal areas around the original cloister of the house. This has been converted into the Al Kostat del Mar restaurant, while a second gastronomic space, a wellness area and a swimming pool are located nearby. Run by Michelin-starred chef Jordi Vilà, Al Kostat del Mar offers a haute cuisine gastronomic experience based on the authentic flavours of Catalan cuisine, prepared with precision and a touch of improvisation. Designed for sharing, the menu pays homage to local ingredients and focuses on charcoal-grilled cuisine, with grills integrated into the cloister’s stone arches. At the Cala Bar, located in the lobby and central hall and also run by Jordi Vilà, guests can enjoy oysters with Bloody Marys or freshly made pastries at any time of the day. Whether it’s outside in the dining room or in the open air in the cloister, visitors and locals alike gather in both gastronomic spaces, where the joy of sharing is celebrated around a table and conversations last well into the night.
Those seeking more intimate experiences can relax by the exclusive pool for guests, where the house’s original pool is surrounded by custom-made loungers, personal coolers and two shaded areas with spacious sofas – the ideal places to enjoy a light drink from the Pool Bar’s informal menu. Nearby, the wellness area, with sauna, jacuzzi, gym and two treatment rooms, offers a peaceful haven for renewal and relaxation. In addition, a short distance from the hotel, guests can discover La Caseta del Mar de Finca Victoria, an exclusive beach club where cold champagne and fresh oysters are served, with towels, parasols and pigeon peas available.
‘Our family roots have always placed great importance on hospitality – from long conversations around a table to unique experiences around the world’, say the Serra brothers. ‘With this vocation, we want to give everything to our guests, taking care of them and making sure that they lack nothing’. In keeping with this spirit, at Finca Victoria our guests find more than just a hotel: they are welcomed into a timeless Mediterranean retreat, where past and present intertwine, and every stay feels like coming home.
