In the early 1920s, Josep Ensesa Gubert, the son of a successful industrialist from Girona, Josep Ensesa Pujades, persuaded his father to buy the lands located between the bay of Sant Pol and the long beach of Sant Feliu de Guíxols. The area didn’t even have a name, so the family decided to name it after the stream that flowed through it: S’Agaró. The main jewel of the project was the Hostal de la Gavina. Josep Ensesa i Gubert, one of the most brilliant hosts that the country’s tourism has ever had, created a legend. The Hotel positioned itself as the most luxurious establishment in the area and as one of the best hotels in Spain and Europe. It was the first hotel in Spain to become a member of the prestigious Leading Hotels of the World association.
